The dev-team working on zwenergy’s Open Source gbaHD project has already done a great job collecting and organising information for people to accomplish their own DIY builds.
From Fried Rice Dragon, we also want to help promote this great DIY GBA home console.
All DIY projects require their fair amount of troubleshooting and trial and error, and us, as the manufacturers of the gbaHD Metal, we’ve had more than enough practice and problems during our way to its final release that we hope to be of help to those that are a little less experienced and get to encounter some problems during assembly. If you fancy our cases, but our consoles are out of your budget, you can consider DIY’ing it yourself with our premium gbaHD Metal cases.
We know that the Spartan 7 FPGA board is in low supply for now, and Mancloud’s Shield is not easy to put together. If you want a gbaHD home console, you may consider getting a Spartan 7 FPGA board in advance from Seeed directly, from TinyTronics, Distrelec or from DigiKey. For those of you that like to DIY, you can get Mancloud’s Shields from our website fully-assembled or as parts for you to solder everything together. In both cases, we’ll provide the Atmega microcontrollers pre-programmed to save you the troubleshooting. All board are manufactured with ENIG finish (gold-plating) for a top-quality finish and long-term durability. We also provide both assembly methods, the simple one with some wires or the flex cable that goes on the CPU for professionals.
Please, have a look at the links below for documentation if you are interested in building a gbaHD:
Remember that this is an Open Source project, the devs don’t get paid for this, but everything is available to the public for free. If you have the opportunity and want to support the project, you can thank them on the Discord channel above. If you encounter any problems while building your own gbaHD, feel free to reach to us on Twitter and we’ll try to give you a hand.
